Being of mid-European Jewish origin confers a risk for contracting classic KS, but even in this group, this is a relatively rare disease. There are no known risk factors for the African variant except possibly geographic origin. The type that occurs after immunosuppressive drug treatment has only the drug as a source of risk. All HIV-positive individuals are at risk for KS, but the risk is many times higher in homosexual men.
